El Paso Convention Center to open for walk-in virus vaccinations with no appointment needed

EL PASO, Texas- The City of El Paso plans to open up the Convention Center downtown for walk-in Covid-19 vaccinations with no appointment needed, ABC-7 has learned.

Starting Wednesday, anyone 18 years of age are older can show up and get vaccinated without the need to schedule an advanced appointment.

In addition, the city announced it would host a number of "pop-up events" over the next few weeks allowing for walk-up vaccinations. Those include:

  • Thursday, April 29, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at El Paso International Airport, 6701 Convair

  • Saturday, May 1, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Beast Urban Park, 13501 Jason Crandall

  • Saturday, May 1, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at El Paso Artists and Farmers Market, 117 Anthony

  • Saturday, May 8, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Valle Bajo Recreation Center, 7380 Alameda

Officials said vaccinations would also continue to be administered through the city's vaccine clinics at 9301 Alameda, 7380 Remcon, and 220 South Stanton (corner of First and Stanton).

El Paso residents are also still able to register and schedule vaccination appointments by visiting or calling (915) 212-6843.

“The City has worked diligently with our community partners to get the vaccine in our residents’ arms, and to improve the process so that we can distribute the vaccine with efficiency, as seen in our high administration rates,” said El Paso Fire Chief Mario D’Agostino, who coordinates the city's emergency management operations - which includes vaccine distribution.

As of Tuesday, he said over 616,000 vaccines had been administered across El Paso which has resulted in:

  • Nearly 40 percent of those 16 and older being fully vaccinated

  • More than 60 percent of those 16 and older receiving their first dose

  • More than 70 percent of those 65 and older being fully vaccinated

  • More than 86 percent of those over 65 receiving their first dose
